Pie Contest

This one is special. Our 20th, on the 20th of February!

Mack’s Apples 20th Pie Contest will be held Saturday, February 20, 2010 at our Farm Market. Please Stop by the store for more details and to sign up.

The Place: Here! At Mack’s Apples Farm Market.

The Date: Saturday, February 20, 2010

The Challenge: To bake the best apple pie, and to be ready to compete with the best pie bakers around.

The Categories

  • Traditional – A Traditional pie will be considered a 2-crust pie made with an apple filling.
  • Non-Traditional – A non-traditional pie will be considered a pie made with mostly apples but with other ingredients added; that is, other fruits, nuts, cream, etc. The pie also does not need to have more than one crust.

The Prizes: Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners in both categories. The First Place winner’s name will also be added to our Great Apple Pie plaques in our Farm Market for all to see. Your apple pie recipe will be printed and distributed in our store.

The Rules: Contestants must be at least 14 years old to enter. No commercial bakeries or restaurants or employees of Mack’s Apples may enter. The term ”Apple Pie” as related to the contest may be as creatively interpreted as an entrant desires; however, the pie must contain mostly apples, and be made in accordance to the rules for the category in which it is to be entered. Pies must arrive at the contest in ready-to-eat condition. Please have your pie and your recipe at Mack’s by 1:30pm so they can be checked in for the 2:00pm judging.

Come and join the fun, and may the best pie win! Good luck!

Pie Contest Tips:

  • Most of our experienced bakers bring their pie warm so it has maximum flavor. If you do this, please make sure you are here by 1:30pm so you’re signed in by judging time, which starts at 2:00pm!
  • This is a family event. The more, the merrier! Refreshments will be served. Relax and have fun. The contest takes about an hour and a half… it takes two rounds to determine the winners!
  • One person can enter a pie in each category, but only one pie per category, please.
